Obituary for Delbridge Lee Alexander Sr.

Delbridge Lee Alexander Sr.
Delbridge Lee Alexander, Sr., 73, of Muskegon Heights, MI, passed away, unexpectedly, on June 18, 2021.

Delbridge was born on December 2, 1947, to Walter and Katherine Alexander, in Memphis, TN. He attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he played basketball.

After his mother’s passing, Delbridge moved to Muskegon, MI, in 1962, to live with his Aunt Barbara and Uncle Asberry Bones. He married on December 14, 1968, and went on to share 6 children with his former wife, Patricia.

Delbridge worked at Lakey Foundry and Seal Power, and later earned his Associates Degree in General Education, from Wayne State University. He had a love of learning and could often be found at the library. Delbridge could always be counted on to offer up deeply intellectual advice that made one stop to think.

He loved to fish as often as possible, and shared his love of fishing with his children. He enjoyed cheering his grandchildren on as they competed in sports, and found joy in spending time with his great-grandchildren as well.

Delbridge was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Katherine (Harris) Alexander, his sisters, Maggie (Alexander) Johnson and Mary Catherine Alexander; as well as grandsons, Jaylen Alexander and Free Alexander; he was also preceded in death by nephew, Carlos Alexander. He is survived by his children, Sylvia Quarles, Delbridge Jr. (Mandy) Alexander, Patrick Alexander, Daryl Alexander, Jerrell (Julia) Alexander, Marcus (Fabiola) Alexander; 9 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Champion; brother, Henry Alexander; niece, Antoinette Champion; nephews, Elton Alexander, Reggie Alexander; and a host of cousins.
